How often does the wallpaper change?

VisionWall refreshes on a timer, every 30 minutes by default. You can set any interval from 2 minutes to 2 hours in Settings, and every refresh reshuffles the board’s pins into a new composition. There’s also a Refresh now item in the ▣ menu bar menu when you want a fresh layout immediately.

Will it slow down my Mac?

No. VisionWall idles at 0% CPU between refreshes. A refresh downloads a small batch of images and composes them once, typically in under a second. The download is about 1.4 MB.

Does it work with multiple monitors?

Yes. Multi-display setups get a wallpaper composed per screen: VisionWall builds a separate composition for each connected display, sized to that screen, so a MacBook next to an external monitor gets two proper wallpapers rather than one image stretched across both. Every display draws from the same board; per-display boards are on the roadmap.

What happens when I’m offline?

Your last wallpaper stays put. VisionWall silently no-ops on each refresh attempt and resumes when you’re back online. Even after a reboot, the wallpaper is restored from the local file, so VisionWall needs no internet connection at startup.

My desktop icons are hard to read over the wallpaper

Calm the composition down in VisionWall’s settings rather than turning the wallpaper off. Reduce the number of columns so each pin is larger and quieter, increase the margins and gutter so more flat background shows between tiles, and set a darker background color. Raising the top margin specifically clears the strip where macOS stacks desktop icons.

Can I use multiple boards?

Right now VisionWall pulls from one board at a time, which keeps the visual mood coherent. Multi-board / playlist support is on the roadmap. Let us know if it’s something you want.

Does VisionWall send my data anywhere?

No. VisionWall has no account, no analytics, and no server. Your board URL and settings live in the local app container on your Mac. Pin images are downloaded directly from Pinterest’s CDN to your Mac. The only request VisionWall makes to us is a check of a static version.json file on visionwall.io, at most once a day, to see whether an update exists.

What macOS versions are supported?

VisionWall runs on macOS 13.3 (Ventura) and later. It ships as a universal binary that runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

What happens if Pinterest changes something?

VisionWall reads boards through Pinterest’s public widget system, which has been stable for years. If Pinterest ever changes it, we ship a fix, free 1.x updates cover exactly this. And in the meantime your last wallpaper always keeps working offline, so nothing on your desktop breaks.

Is it on the Mac App Store?

Coming soon. For now, buy VisionWall directly from visionwall.io, you get an instant download and the exact same app, signed and notarized by Apple. When the Mac App Store version lands, it’ll be the same price and the same license.

Is there a free trial?

No, and the honest reason is that a trial would mean building the thing VisionWall deliberately doesn’t have. There is no account and no server, so there’s nothing to meter a trial against without adding a login. The demo video on this page is a real-time recording of the whole setup, so you can see exactly what you’re buying before you buy it.

How do I install it after buying?

You’ll get an email with a download link AND a license key. Unzip, drag VisionWall.app into Applications, open it, and paste your license key. The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without any security warnings. Total time: under a minute.

How does the license key work?

Your VisionWall license activates the app on up to 3 Macs and includes free 1.x updates. You activate once when you paste the key; after that the app occasionally re-checks the license when you’re online, and an offline Mac keeps working indefinitely.

How do I move my license to a new Mac?

One VisionWall license covers 3 Macs at once, so a second or third machine only needs the same key pasted in. To free up a seat, open VisionWall on the old Mac and go to Settings… → License → Deactivate this Mac, then activate the new one. If the old Mac is already sold, wiped, or gone, email hello@visionwall.io with your license key and we’ll release the seat for you.

I lost my license key

Email hello@visionwall.io with the address you bought from and we’ll resend it. Or check the original purchase confirmation email, the key is in there.

Fair questions

Yes. VisionWall reads pins through Pinterest’s public widget API, which only works on public boards. If your board is set to private, secret, or invite-only collab, switch it to public in Pinterest’s board settings. You can flip it back anytime.

How to make a Pinterest board public

VisionWall never touches your Pinterest account. It doesn’t sign in, doesn’t ask for your password, holds no OAuth token or API key, and never pins, posts, follows, or modifies anything. It reads only boards that are already publicly visible, through the same public widget system Pinterest serves to any website that embeds a board, so from Pinterest’s side it looks like an ordinary visitor loading a public page. You don’t even need a Pinterest account to use VisionWall; a public board URL is enough.

Use it if it covers you, it’s free and it works. It does a different job, though: macOS rotates through images you have already downloaded into a folder, showing one at a time. VisionWall composes many pins from a live Pinterest board into a single masonry wallpaper, and it keeps the source live, pins you save to that board next week appear on your desktop on their own, with nothing to download, rename or file away. Make your Mac wallpaper change automatically

Free up your license seat first: menu bar icon → Settings… → License → Deactivate this Mac. Then quit VisionWall and drag VisionWall.app from Applications to the Trash. To remove the local data as well, delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/VisionWall/ and run “defaults delete studio.soma.visionwall” in Terminal. There is no uninstaller to run. Afterwards, pick a new desktop picture in System Settings → Wallpaper.
